    Rescued by Amma, now she helps rescue others: Athira’s story

    Rescued by Amma, Athira has now dedicated her life to helping rescue others who are suffering. Amma conducted the marriage of Athira to Sandeep in Amritapuri, where both of them work at AMMACHI Labs. Shedding tears of joy, Amma said Sandeep has a heart filled with compassion for accepting Athira into his life.

    Athira came under Amma’s care when she was 15. Her father, an alcoholic, passed away, and her mother was severely mentally ill and had epilepsy. Amma gave Athira and her sister a home in the Ashram’s orphanage in Paripally, Kerala.

    For Amma, Amrita Hospital’s foundation is laid upon the stone of compassion. As of today, it has provided ₹816 crore ($105 million) of free treatment that has reached 5.9 million people living in poverty. However, Amma’s vision also goes beyond that focus. Amrita Hospital makes high-quality, innovative healthcare affordable to all people, especially the middle classes. Overall, the hospital has successfully treated 19.6 million patients with this steadfast belief.

    On June 4, 2023, Amma addressed the 25th Anniversary Ceremonies at Amrita Hospital, Kochi, through a video message in the presence of Sri Amit Shah, Hon’ble Minister of Home Affairs, Govt of India; Smt Veena George, Hon’ble Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Govt of Kerala; and other distinguished guests.
