Amritapuri celebrated Sri Krishna Jayanti with a variety of programs. The day began at 8 a.m. with devotional chanting (Nama Sankirtanam) followed by Go Puja (cow worship). In the afternoon, at 3 p.m., a grand procession took place at the ashram, where many children, including foreigners, dressed up as Krishna and Radha. The evening festivities included traditional games like Uriyadi, cultural programs, bhajans, and at 11:30 p.m., a Balagopala Puja, Bhagavata recitation, and prasadam distribution, all in the divine presence of our beloved Amma.
In her Sri Krishna Jayanti message, Amma said, “The word kṛṣṇa means ‘one who attracts and gives joy.’ From the moment Kṛṣṇa took birth in Kamsa’s dungeon to the moment he ascended to heaven, all his actions were heart-captivating. His actions uplifted and gave enormous joy to humans. Kṛṣṇa was a purṇāvatāra—a complete and perfect incarnation.
“His life had the splendor of the peacock feather, the perfect harmony of the songs flowing out of his flute, and the purity of the Tulasi leaf. Kṛṣṇa’s life was a commentary on the Vedāntic principles and an interpretation of the dharma that befitted the age. Interaction with Bhagavān became a yoga—divine union—for everyone.
“Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s life was a flow. In the grand flow of his life, he did not reject any part or role assigned to him. He fully immersed himself in every role he undertook and played it to perfection. This is why he was able to face every circumstance with a smile.”
